Soft, buttery, and coated in cinnamon sugar — this tastes just like an old-fashioned cake donut in loaf form. No yeast, no frying!


🛒 Ingredients

For the loaf:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional but recommended)

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)

For the cinnamon sugar topping:

  • ¼ cup melted butter

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon


👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    Grease a 9×5 loaf pan.

  2. Mix dry ingredients
    In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  3. Cream butter & sugar
    Beat until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).

  4. Add eggs & vanilla
    Mix until combined.

  5. Alternate dry + buttermilk
    Add dry ingredients in 3 parts, alternating with buttermilk.
    Mix just until combined (don’t overmix).

  6. Bake
    Pour into pan and bake 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  7. Cinnamon sugar coating
    Let cool 10 minutes, remove from pan.
    Brush warm loaf with melted butter.
    Mix sugar + cinnamon and sprinkle generously over the top (or roll loaf in it for full coating).


✨ Optional Add-Ons

  • Add a cinnamon swirl inside (mix ¼ cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon and layer in middle).

  • Drizzle with simple glaze (1 cup powdered sugar + 2–3 tbsp milk).

  • Add mini chocolate chips for a fun twist.
