Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork sausage works best)

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2–3 cups whole milk (adjust for thickness)

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (or to taste)

  • 1/2 tsp salt (optional, depending on sausage)

  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of garlic powder


Instructions

  1. Brown the sausage
    In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until fully browned. Break it up into small crumbles as it cooks.
    Do not drain the grease (unless there’s an excessive amount β€” leave about 2–3 tablespoons).

  2. Add flour
    Sprinkle the flour over the sausage. Stir well and cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

  3. Add milk slowly
    Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk while stirring constantly. The mixture will begin to thicken.

  4. Simmer & adjust
    Let it simmer for 5–10 minutes, stirring frequently, until thick and creamy.
    Add more milk if it gets too thick.

  5. Season
    Add black pepper and adjust salt to taste.
