Cheesy Beef Biscuit Casserole
Ingredients
-
1 lb ground beef
-
1 small onion, diced
-
2 cups shredded cabbage or sliced onions (the photo looks cabbage-heavy, but onions work too)
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp paprika (optional but nice)
-
1½–2 cups shredded cheddar or Colby-Jack cheese
-
1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
-
2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
-
Cook the filling
-
Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
-
Add onion and cabbage; cook until soft and lightly caramelized.
-
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
-
Drain excess grease.
-
-
Prepare the biscuit layer
-
Cut biscuits in half horizontally (or flatten with your hands).
-
Line the bottom of the baking dish with half the biscuit pieces, slightly overlapping.
-
-
Layer it up
-
Spread beef mixture evenly over the biscuits.
-
Sprinkle generously with cheese.
-
Top with remaining biscuit pieces.
-
-
Finish & bake
-
Brush the top with melted butter.
-
Cover loosely with foil and bake 25 minutes.
-
Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
-
-
Rest
-
Let it sit 10 minutes before slicing — this helps it hold together like the photo.
-
Optional upgrades
-
Add a thin layer of American cheese slices for extra meltiness
-
Mix 2–3 tbsp sour cream into the beef for richness
-
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for a “cheeseburger” vibe
If you want, I can tweak this into a cabbage-forward version, a keto-ish version, or even a Slavic / Eastern-European style bake — just say the word 😄
