Oven-Baked BBQ Ribs (Tender & Saucy)

Oven-Baked BBQ Ribs (Tender & Saucy)

Ingredients

  • 2 racks pork ribs (baby back or spare ribs)

  • Salt & black pepper

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 2 tsp onion powder

  • 2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp chili powder (optional)

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite)

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Optional flavor boosters

  • 1 tsp mustard powder

  • ½ tsp cayenne (for heat)

  • Splash of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prep the ribs
    Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs (this matters—use a butter knife and paper towel).

  2. Season
Mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, and mustard powder if using.
Rub ribs all over with oil/butter, then coat generously with seasoning.

  3. Wrap & bake low and slow
Place ribs meat-side down on foil-lined baking sheet.
Cover tightly with another layer of foil (seal it well).
Bake for 2½–3 hours, until very tender.

  4. Sauce time
Carefully unwrap ribs (watch the juices—gold).
Increase oven temp to 425°F (220°C).
Brush ribs with BBQ sauce mixed with brown sugar, vinegar, and Worcestershire.

  5. Caramelize
Return ribs to oven uncovered for 15–25 minutes, brushing with more sauce halfway, until sticky and slightly charred.

  6. Rest & serve
Let rest 10 minutes, slice, and dig in.

Pro Tips

  • 🔥 For extra “grill” vibes, broil the last 2–3 minutes (watch closely!)

  • 🍯 Honey instead of brown sugar = deeper glaze

  • 🍎 Apple juice can replace vinegar for a sweeter finish

  • 🧂 Season generously—ribs can take it

Serve With

  • Creamy coleslaw

  • Cornbread or mac & cheese

  • Baked beans
