Cheesy Beef Biscuit Casserole

Cheesy Beef Biscuit Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage or sliced onions (the photo looks cabbage-heavy, but onions work too)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp paprika (optional but nice)

  • 1½–2 cups shredded cheddar or Colby-Jack cheese

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.

  2. Cook the filling

    • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Add onion and cabbage; cook until soft and lightly caramelized.

    • Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

    • Drain excess grease.

  3. Prepare the biscuit layer

    • Cut biscuits in half horizontally (or flatten with your hands).

    • Line the bottom of the baking dish with half the biscuit pieces, slightly overlapping.

  4. Layer it up

    • Spread beef mixture evenly over the biscuits.

    • Sprinkle generously with cheese.

    • Top with remaining biscuit pieces.

  5. Finish & bake

    • Brush the top with melted butter.

    • Cover loosely with foil and bake 25 minutes.

    • Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden brown.

  6. Rest

    • Let it sit 10 minutes before slicing — this helps it hold together like the photo.

Optional upgrades

  • Add a thin layer of American cheese slices for extra meltiness

  • Mix 2–3 tbsp sour cream into the beef for richness

  • Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for a “cheeseburger” vibe

If you want, I can tweak this into a cabbage-forward version, a keto-ish version, or even a Slavic / Eastern-European style bake — just say the word 😄
