🌮 Seven Layer Taco Salad
🧾 Ingredients
Meat Layer
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- ¼ cup water
Salad Layers
- 2 cups tortilla chips (lightly crushed)
- 4 cups chopped lettuce (romaine or iceberg)
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 orange or yellow bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1–2 avocados, diced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
Creamy Dressing
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup salsa
- 1 tbsp taco seasoning
🥣 Instructions
1. Cook the beef
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
- Drain excess fat.
- Add taco seasoning and water, stir well, and simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
2. Make the dressing
- In a small bowl, mix together sour cream, salsa, and taco seasoning until smooth.
- Set aside.
3. Assemble the layers
In a large clear bowl (for best presentation), layer in this order:
- Crushed tortilla chips (bottom layer)
- Seasoned ground beef
- Diced bell peppers
- Chopped lettuce
- Spread the dressing evenly
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Diced avocado
- Diced tomatoes on top
4. Chill & serve
- Refrigerate for 15–30 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with cilantro if desired.
- Serve as is (layered) or toss gently before eating.
💡 Tips
- Add black beans or corn for extra texture.
- Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
- Keep chips crunchy by adding them just before serving if making ahead.
- For extra flavor, squeeze fresh lime juice over the top.
