Crispy Fried Mushrooms with Sweet Chili Sauce

🍄 Ingredients

For the mushrooms

  • 500 g fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup cornstarch

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp salt

Wet batter

  • 1 cup cold water or milk

  • 1 egg

For frying

  • Oil for deep frying (vegetable or canola)

Sauce

  • ½ cup sweet chili sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)

  • 1 tsp soy sauce


👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the mushrooms

  1. Wash mushrooms quickly and pat dry with paper towel.

  2. If large, cut them into halves or quarters.

2. Make the batter

  1. In a bowl mix:

    • flour

    • cornstarch

    • garlic powder

    • onion powder

    • paprika

    • salt and pepper

  2. In another bowl whisk egg + cold water.

  3. Combine wet mixture with dry mixture to make a thick batter.

3. Coat the mushrooms

  1. Dip mushrooms into the batter.

  2. Make sure each piece is fully coated.

4. Fry

  1. Heat oil to 175°C / 350°F.

  2. Fry mushrooms in batches for 3–4 minutes until golden and crispy.

  3. Remove and place on paper towels.

5. Add sauce

  1. Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the mushrooms or serve on the side for dipping.

Serve hot with:

  • ranch dressing

  • garlic aioli

  • spicy mayo


💡 Extra crispy tip:
