Homemade Pita Bread (Soft & Puffy)

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110Β°F / 43Β°C)

  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp olive oil


Step 1: Activate the yeast

  1. In a bowl, mix:

    • warm water

    • sugar

    • yeast

  2. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.


Step 2: Make the dough

  1. Add:

    • flour

    • salt

    • olive oil

  2. Mix until dough forms.

  3. Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.


Step 3: First rise

  • Place dough in an oiled bowl.

  • Cover and let it rise 1 hour until doubled.


Step 4: Shape

  1. Divide dough into 8 balls.

  2. Roll each into a 6–7 inch circle (about ΒΌ inch thick).

  3. Let rest 10 minutes.


Step 5: Cook the pita

Heat a very hot skillet or pan (no oil).
