🥩 Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes

🧾 Ingredients

Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled & cubed

  • ½ cup milk or cream (warm)

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

Beef & Gravy

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef (stew meat, chuck, or ground beef)

  • 1 tbsp oil or butter

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, depth of flavor)

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.

  2. Drain and mash with butter, warm milk, salt, and pepper.

  3. Cover and keep warm.


2️⃣ Beef & Gravy

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Brown beef on all sides. Remove and set aside.
    (If using ground beef, brown and drain excess fat.)

  3. In same pan, sauté onion until soft. Add garlic; cook 30 seconds.

  4. Add broth, Worcestershire, soy sauce, pepper, paprika, and salt.

  5. Return beef to pan. Simmer 15–20 minutes (longer if using chunks).

  6. Stir in cornstarch slurry and simmer until gravy thickens.


🍽️ To Serve

Spoon creamy mashed potatoes into bowls, top with beef and rich gravy.
Finish with parsley, cracked pepper, or a knob of butter.
