Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

🥩 Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients

For the Steaks:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms

  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp dried thyme

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Patties

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, salt, and pepper.

  2. Mix gently until just combined (don’t overmix).

  3. Form into 4–6 oval patties.

2️⃣ Brown the Steaks

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a little oil.

  2. Add patties and cook about 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.

  3. Remove from skillet and set aside (they don’t need to be fully cooked yet).

3️⃣ Make the Mushroom Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook until softened (about 5 minutes).

  2. Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir well. Cook 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.

  3. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps.

  4. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme.

  5. Simmer until gravy thickens (about 5 minutes).

4️⃣ Finish Cooking

  1. Return the patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them.

  2. Cover and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until patties are fully cooked (internal temp 160°F / 71°C).
