Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper

Here’s a full homemade version of Hamburger Helper (Cheesy Beef & Noodles) — creamy, cheesy, and way better than the box.

🍔 Homemade Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 cups uncooked egg noodles (or small pasta like shells)

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp mustard (optional, boosts flavor)

  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Optional add-ins:

  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning

  • Splash of Worcestershire sauce

  • Red pepper flakes

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Brown the Beef

In a large skillet or pot over medium heat:

  • Cook ground beef until browned.

  • Drain excess grease if needed.

  • Add diced onion and cook 3–4 minutes.

  • Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds.

2️⃣ Build the Sauce

Add:

  • Beef broth

  • Milk

  • Tomato paste

  • Paprika

  • Mustard

  • Salt & pepper

Stir to combine.

3️⃣ Add the Pasta

  • Stir in uncooked noodles.

  • Bring to a gentle boil.

  • Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.

(If it gets too thick, add a splash of milk.)

4️⃣ Add the Cheese

  • Turn off heat.

  • Stir in shredded cheddar until melted and creamy.

Let sit 2–3 minutes to thicken.

🧀 Extra Creamy Version

Add 2 oz cream cheese with the cheddar for ultra-creamy texture.
